Favorite Photo's:

My favorite Photo that I took this year was the one above. I like the low camera angle, the lighting, background and compelling photo subject. The biggest change from the beginning to the end of the term in my photo taking skills is the angling and lighting of my subjects. My first photo's  were almost all eye level with poor lighting, now I've gotten better at finding different angles and working with the lighting.

THREE GOALS:

1. Learn how to "Capture the moment"
2. Learn how to edit photo's beyond Instagram
3. Move passed simply "point and shoot" photography

I feel like I was able to accomplish all of the goals that I set for myself this semester. Prior to taking this class I had no formal training in photography so I had a steep learning curve. Working in Photoshop learning how to crop, lighten and edit my photo's helped me to gain a better understanding of the importance of being aware of the lighting and surroundings while I was taking my pictures. I also learned that the perfect shot is out there waiting to be discovered at all times so it's important to have your camera ready at all times.

Photo Story

Mccloud, age 52, has always wanted to be tattooed but got waited until this year to get her first. She surprised her,  Pedra Weber, when  she came back home from Corvallis with a tattoo on her arm. This time she brought Pedra with her to get her first tattoo.

Christian Chase, a tattoo artist for High Priestess Piercing and Tattoo in Corvallis, begins to work on Mccloud's tattoo. Mccloud was Chase's last appointment of the day. Chase can spend up to eight hours on a single tattoo, depending on the intricacy and size of it.

Chase darkens the lettering on Mccloud's tattoo. Chase explained that the pain level for every tattoo is different depending on the size and location of the tattoo. The ribs and head are some of the most sensitive areas on the body to get tattooed.

Mccloud examines her finished tattoo. Tattoo is the date is the anniversary of Skye and Pedra's marriage. They were married in Greece and hope one day to move into a house that Pedra inherited from her parents there.

Topic 1:
To me, the most important innovation in photography was when George Eastman created Kodak and brought photography to the general public. Before that, only the wealthy had the oppourtunity to have their pictures taken. Eastman allowed everyone to have chance to record their own personal lives and have memories they could pass on to future generations.

Topic 2:
For my photo story I am going to take pictures of someone getting a tattoo done. I'll obviously have to get a before and after shot, but I think the most important shots i'll get will be the one's I get while it's happening. I think getting a few close up's of the persons facial expressions while they are getting the tattoo will make for some interesting shots.

I really like this picture because you can tell exactly what's happening in it. It freezes the action perfectly. I really like the lower angle at which the picture is taken from because it allows you to see both the infielder and the baserunner's faces. My questions for Scobel would be, how do you position yourself for sports photo's, what shutter speed do you use and what is your favorite sport to shoot?

Topic 2:

My biggest challenge in this assignment was finding people to take picture's of. I like the picture of Reser because of the symmetry. If I had to do this again, I would go to my actual home town, that way I would know exactly where to go to catch people in action.

Topic 1:
My favorite photo story was the one about the immigrant's who jump onto moving trains in order to get across the Mexican-American border. I enjoyed how compelling the overall story was and the determination of these people. The most obvious challenge the photographer faced was the fact that he had to make the jump onto a moving train in order to get the shots he needed. I need to be willing to put this level of fearlessness into my photo story.

Topic 2:
For my photo story I want to either follow an athlete as the prepare of a game, or visit a construction site and track the progress that is made. For both of these i'm going to need inside access that the general public won't have.

Topic 1:
1: Section 4 of the Code of Ethics stood out to me the most. It can be tough to walk the line between remaining respectful and still getting the right shot to tell the story. #5 is also stood out to me because it focuses on the same issue, it can be hard to remain unobtrusive when you're pointing a camera in someones face.

Topic 2:
Favorite photo's

I really love this picture of Heathers just because of it's overall beauty. The colors are extremely vivid and contrast well with the darkness of the tree line.

I like this picture from Scott that he took at the fire drill because of the pure boredom on the faces of the subjects.

My Neighborhood

Week 3 forum

Portrait Subject:
I plan on shooting my cousin Devon, who is a beekeeper. I'll go out with him to his shop where he keeps his bee boxes and have him pose with some of his boxes in his bee suit.



Self Critique:

Of the photo's I've taken so far, this one is by far my favorite. It was the first time that one of my "Hail Mary" shots actually worked out.

My least favorite is probably one of the ones I took on week one of the couple rehearsing for the "Sound of Music", the lighting was dark and the focus was a little bit off. I really want to work on capturing better action shots.

I really like this picture because it captures the exact moment of detonation.

Feature Photos:

Out of the 22 ways to a feature, the two I found most interesting and would like to try are: Examine the extremes and shooting from unique angles. Finding a way to combine the two would make for some extremely interesting and exciting photos.

PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE WEEK:

Nigel Barker is a renowned fashion photographer who was born in London, England. He was a judge on America's Next Top Model and had hopes of being a model when he was younger. He is well known for his portraits and stylistic pictures.

LBCC PHOTO'S:

I think it would be interesting to take pictures at both an LBCC and OSU baseball game and compare the two. Taking photo's at the sand volleyball courts during the weekend would also be an interesting assignment.
